Elementary Safe Touch Information
During the month of October, our elementary school counselors, along with a representative from First Light SC, will host discussions with our students on Body Safety. First Light SC is a non-profit agency that operates in Oconee and Anderson Counties and partners with school districts to facilitate student body safety discussions. The focus of this curriculum is to teach students how to identify safe and unsafe touches and teach students how to ask for help if they need it. All of our schools will use the same presentations across our district. We recognize that discussions on body safety are very sensitive, so please do not hesitate to reach out to your school’s administrative team or guidance department if you have any questions or concerns. You can view the presentations at the links below:
Drive Smart is a driving course, taught by the SDOC School Resource Officers, that all students must take prior to driving and parking on one of our campuses. This four-hour course will be taught at each of our three high schools and is designed to help teens gain the knowledge to drive defensively. The Drive Smart driving course will take the place of the requirement for Alive at 25. A student may still take the Alive at 25 course instead of Drive Smart. Cost of the course is $25.00.
