LOCAL SAT AND ACT DATES
Tri-County Technical College:
Students attending a two-year college directly after high school are not required to take the SAT or ACT, even if the intention is to eventually transfer to a four-year college/university. The Accuplacer is the placement test for Tri County Technical College, and you must have certain scores in order to avoid taking remedial courses once you begin college. You should have taken the Accuplacer for the first time at your home high school in the fall of your junior year.
The ACCUPLACER is composed of three tests: reading, writing and mathematical reasoning. The test is untimed but takes the average student from 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete. Scores are good for three years.
Seniors have 3 options to take the Accuplacer for the first time or to retest if needed (first retest is free):
-
Take here at SHS during Accuplacer testing for juniors (This option is only available for students who are third year high school students – early graduates or missed the testing last year).
-
Take on Tri County Technical College Campus in Pendleton (Miller Hall; Room 103) any Monday-Thursday 8:00-5:00 or Friday 8:00-12:00 (no appointment necessary but need photo ID).
-
Take for the first time or retest at the new Tri County Technical College Campus on Highway 11 - HCTC. This is usually given on Thursdays from 2-5. Call 864.613.1905 to make an appointment.

Four-Year Colleges/Universities:
The SAT or ACT is often required for admission to most four-year colleges. Even if one of these tests is optional for admission to the college of your choice, there are certain scholarships, especially South Carolina scholarships, that do require a certain score on one of these tests.
